The City of Yorba Linda recently announced the winner of its 2020 Citizen of the Year award. Since 2004, the City has honored a member of the community who embodies the highest ideals and sets the ultimate example for the whole community to follow. Every year, the Yorba Linda community nominates individuals whose acts of volunteer service deserve the prestigious recognition of Citizen of the Year. This year, the City is proud to announce that Yorba Linda’s 2020 Citizen of the Year is Cindy De Mint!
Cindy discovered her life’s purpose when three of her four children were diagnosed with Ataxia, an extremely rare genetic degenerative neurological disorder. This genetic disease can leave patients unable to walk, drive, write, and handle their own basic needs. Highly motivated to be a voice for the Ataxia community, Cindy became the Orange County Ataxia Support Group leader and eventually took on a more significant role as a Board Member for the National Ataxia Foundation. Cindy organizes the annual ‘Walk ‘n Roll’ event held in Yorba Linda to raise awareness and funds for vital research into finding a cure for Ataxia and supporting Ataxia programs.
Cindy’s dedication to those who suffer from Ataxia and her relentless efforts to help find a cure has earned her recognition with several prestigious awards, magazine articles and even a feature in a documentary film. Now, she can add 2020 Citizen of the Year award winner to her long and well-deserved list of accomplishments. Congratulations Cindy! Thanks for being an incredible example for the Yorba Linda community!
